Most people share more information than they think.

Everytime we publish something on our networks that content becomes public dominion. As My Precious Data: stranger Danger investigation of Kaspersky Lab affirms, 97.3% of people share their information digitally. From them, the 78.7% share pictures and videos of their families and the 48.4% share pictures and videos.

Moreover, according to a report of the Royal Society for Public Health focused on the United Kingdom, Instagram is the most harmful app for young people, especially between young women.

Irune Carrillo, student of nursing in the UNAV (University of Navarra), claims: "Someone stole me some pictures of my Instagram to create a fake profile in other network".

She and her friends reported the profile and finally, they managed to close it.

The good point is that Instagram offers two options to its users. They can have the profile public or keep it private. People who do not want everyone to see their content prefer to have their profiles on private so only the people they accept are able to see it. Normally, famous people have it public as they live thanks to their public image.

According to Kaspersky Lab, the main risks of exposing too much information on the social media are the following:

  • Data lost: As said before, when something is posted it becomes public dominion, so it is difficult to know where that data goes to.

  • Information could reach to unknown people: When you lose a device you lost all of the information that was on it. As well as including sites passwords or even private pictures.

  • Young people are more exposed to hackers: Children between 16 and 24 years old shares their data’s %61. Irune Carrillo, student of nursing in the UNAV (University of Navarra), claims: "Someone stole me some pictures of my Instagram to create a fake profile in other network". She and her friends reported the profile and finally, they managed to close it.
